But don’t take the above as a criticism. I’ve found that having now played a Persona game for each of the last three Januarys in a row, the series, and Persona 3 Reload especially, makes for some of the best video game escapism you can find. And that’s an extremely valuable selling point during a month that can be a real slog.

While players have subsequently been introduced to new iterations of Persona 3, including Persona 3 FES and P3 Portable, Persona 3 Reload is solely a remake of the original title, meaning some elements, such as the choice of a female protagonist, won't be present.

These are three excellent games that are well worth playing at pretty much any time of the year, but what I’ve discovered in particular is that the Persona series makes for the perfect companions during the bleak winter months when the weather outside is gloomy and it’s starting to getting dark by the middle of the afternoon. 

The protagonist, Yukari and Junpei would still have known about each-other as regular classmates. They wouldn't recognize Aigis aside from the fact she lives in the same dorm as them, but she hasn't had her memories erased.

With a business-like demeanor, she likes to keep everything in order. She is well respected as an honor student who excels in both studies and extracurriculars, but due to her high-class upbringing, she can be oblivious to things most folks would consider common sense.

On the direction of the game's logo, the "Persona 3" part of it was kept as is to convey the message that the fundamentals of the game have not changed, but because it is not purely an "HD remaster," the look of "Reload" was made to look more modern to emphasize that there are new elements to the game.

’s sprawling network of dungeons, Theurgy abilities allow for a special attack after gradually meeting certain criteria — exploiting enemy weaknesses with Koromaru, using support skills with fellow school student Yukari, Persona 3 Reload Gameplay and so on.

The frame rate has been improved from the original's 30FPS to a stable 60FPS, and the resolution has been increased to support 4K.
